The article provides a brief analysis of data on some major earthquakes that occurred in the Almaty, East Kazakhstan and Zhambyl regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1887-2003. The negative consequences that occurred as a result of these dangerous natural phenomena are described. The material damage and the number of casualties are indicated. Based on the requirements of domestic construction regulations of different years, an assessment of the seismic resistance of life support facilities in Taraz is given. The absence of large-scale and planned work aimed at ensuring the safety of citizens, buildings and structures in Taraz is indicated. The development and implementation of a long-term program to ensure the safety of the city's population and its most important facilities during earthquakes is proposed. As an integral part of the work of this program, it is proposed to consider the compilation of a digital map of life support facilities in Taraz according to the degree of their possible destruction during earthquakes using AI (artificial intelligence). The main tasks to be solved within the framework of the development of the proposed digital map are considered. The scientific and technical assignment for the development of a digital map within the framework of program-targeted financing (PTF) was submitted to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
