This article presents a comprehensive study of the physical and mechanical properties of modern light industry materials - various types of natural leather and innovative polymer-based eco-leather (PU/PE). The relevance of the study is due to the need to scientifically justify the choice of materials in clothing design to ensure the required performance properties and durability of products. In the experimental part of the study, conducted in accordance with state standards (GOST), seven material samples of different basic types (knitwear, wool, varnished and metallized coatings) were tested. A comparative analysis was carried out using the following key parameters: surface density, specific breaking load, relative elongation, air permeability and wear resistance (weight loss due to training). The results of the study revealed significant differences in the structure and properties of the materials. While natural leather has high strength properties, it was found that modern eco-leather models demonstrate a high level of hygienic comfort (breathability) and competitive wear resistance. The data obtained allow optimizing the process of material science assessment when developing new clothing collections and can be used to improve the regulatory framework for clothing production.
