This paper examines the key factors influencing the development of initial design requirements for school uniforms intended for middle school girls. The main reasons for dissatisfaction with the quality of school uniforms produced by enterprises in Kazakhstan include non-compliance with hygienic and ergonomic requirements, as well as the limited opportunities for self-expression and participation of middle school girls in shaping the individual style of school uniforms. Middle school age represents a transitional period from childhood to adolescence, characterized by profound physiological changes and transformations in personal and social values, which is clearly reflected in girls’ desire to create their own image. Accordingly, the aesthetic, functional, and image-related requirements of adolescent girls for school uniforms were identified through an online survey. Based on the survey results, the style, color scheme, and composition of school uniforms were systematized. In addition, organoleptic, microscopic, and physical-mechanical properties of fabric samples for school uniforms available on the market of the Republic of Kazakhstan were investigated. The obtained results provide a scientific basis for selecting materials and structural solutions in the design of school uniforms.
